Publication for the exhibition SPLITTER by Leyla Yenirce in the historic monastery church of Kunstmuseum Magdeburg. Her work unfolds an interplay of image and sound, light and shadow, visibility and concealment through large-format video and room-filling sounds.
The publication reflects the spatial experience of the show and how contemporary art and historical architecture, showing and hiding, image and sound interact.
Each second of the video is represented by a column in the book, forming the axis in relation to sound volume. Photographs follow the timeline from different perspectives – walking around the church becomes a visual experience. The louder the sound, the smaller the images.
Cover and page numbers were created as Frottages of the church walls to capture the space’s texture and the resonance of the sound.
